Local Exchange

The artwork in our debut exhibition, “Local Exchange” demonstrates the visual conversation we’ve had within our newly formed collective bridging our studio and teaching practices with Chicago area students. We challenged our members to exhibit a work of art that is connected to a student project they taught this semester. This idea reflects our belief in the dynamic exchange between student and teacher: one that is reciprocal and reflects John Dewey's belief that "education is not a preparation for life but is life itself.” The Foster Collective member artwork is displayed adjacent to a photographic sample from the student project.
